We’re still together after all these years;
Me and the fabulous Billy Shears.
His voice i’n’t much – but it never was.
We’ve stuck together ... just because.
We’ve had others come and others go.
Much of what we do’s the original show.
We’ve had suggestions we should re-mix it
But if it ain’t broke, why should we fix it?
Unless it’s a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering -
Which it does these days – as I reminisce
And wonder how it’s come to this.
Played a village-hall gig but couldn’t fill it
So we’re back in the bar at the “Crooked Billet”.
Strumming and picking and keeping it live
Ensuring the music will survive.

We still sing of lovers and friends of course,
The Hendersons and Mr Kite; Henry the Horse;
Of mornings and daydreams and Liverpool streets;
Of circuses, trampolines; phenomenal feats:
But cheery memories are a thin disguise
As yet another angel flies.
Tired hands applaud their weary devotion
And Sergeant Pepper’s nearing promotion
To the ranks of those who’ve gone before
And are gathered now round Heaven’s door.

We’re Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band;
We hope you have enjoyed the show.
We’re Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band;
Soon be time for us to go.
But there’s others we know who will keep it live
So at least the music will survive.
