Description

Now children, we’re making a castle today -
It will be such a wonderful thing!
We’ve got cornflakes packets and egg boxes too
And 200 metres of string.
And all of these things were donated for free
By Christopher’s Aunty Mabel -
And Shirley, I’m sure
You’ll enjoy things much more
If you come out from under the table.

Remember, we have to be careful with glue -
Squeeze it gently, that’s my advice.
Yes, I know that it looks just like Angel Delight
But it doesn’t taste nearly as nice.
And the scissors are meant to cut cardboard
They’re not meant for cutting your hair!
And Shirley, I’m sure
You’ll enjoy things much more
If you come out from under your chair

Colin, don’t squirt the glue like that.
No, Mandy, it ISN’T fun -
It’s meant to be used for sticking things -
It’s not a laser gun.
Now you’ve made Debby cry because it’s gone in her eye.
Don’t laugh, Mandy - You know that’s not fair.
And Shirley, I’m sure
You’ll enjoy things much more
If you come out from under your chair.

Michael, don’t flick your bogeys, my dear,
It’s such a nasty habit.
And Mandy, I’ve told you - don’t climb on the hutch.
Now look – you’ve squashed Roger rabbit!
Don’t contradict me please, Mandy -
It’s a rabbit, not a hare.
And Shirley, I’m sure
You’ll enjoy things much more

If you come out from under your chair.

I think I know best, Madam Mandy -
I’m the teacher after all
And if you keep on contradicting me
I’ll make you go stand in the hall.
It’s PVA glue and it DOES wash out
It says so here on the label.
And Shirley, I’m sure
You’ll enjoy things much more
If you come out from under the table.

Oh Penelope, you silly thing!
You’ve gone and unravelled the whole ball of string!
No, don’t cry dear – It was an accident, surely.
Do try to stop wailing - You’ll make yourself poorly.
Do come down from the bookcase, Harry,
You’re making the whole thing unstable.
And Shirley, I’m sure
You’ll enjoy things much more
If you come out from under the table.

They’re a lively class, make no mistake.
They struggle with reading and writing
So I try to keep them occupied -
Or at least to stop them from fighting.
“Why not try craftwork?” the headteacher said
But I’m really not sure if I’m able.
Could you just move along a bit Shirley, my dear
I’m joining you under the table!
